MyPodder, the “Podcatcher on a Stick,” has been released in beta form for public testing. This application for receiving podcasts, similar Apple Corporations iTunes 4.9, allows the user to subscribe to and receive customized audio content on most any MP3 player. What makes this open-source application unique is the fact that it resides entirely on the MP3 player itself and is not installed on any computer system or tied to any proprietary hardware or operating system.
"Just as podcasting released people from their radios, MyPodder now releases them from their computers" explains Russell Holliman, president of Houston based Infostructure Solutions, LLC and coordinator of the testing efforts in the United States. "MyPodder lives on a persons MP3 player. That player can be plugged into any internet capable computer system running Windows, OSX, or Linux, and it will receive the subscribed podcasts automatically. There is no installation, no synchronization…. It just works."
"Podcatcher on a Stick" is an open-source project from Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany. It was developed by Christian Rotzoll with support from Hagen-Christian Tonnies and a special thanks to Michael Grunwald.
