BioCell Technology, LLC, exclusive worldwide supplier of BioCell Collagen II®, was recently awarded a patent for the manufacturing process of BioCell Collagen II®, hydrolyzed collagen type II with hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulfate. The U.S. patent supports the joint, skin, and eye health benefit research findings for their pioneering invention of collagen type II and further establishes the company's leadership role in the natural products and cosmecuticals industries. Already the recipient of two previous patents, the new patent includes novel methods and compositions containing hyaluronic acid, which is a powerful and essential ingredient in the collagen matrix.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded Patent No. US 6,780,841, entitled hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate based hydrolyzed collagen type II and method of making same to BioCell on August 24, 2004. The patent protects BioCell's process of manufacturing, preparation and use of hydrolzyed collagen type II powder compositions administered orally for absorption through the gastrointestinal tract or topically for dermis absorption in treating connective tissue disorder and replenishing skin viscoelasticity.

BioCell Collagen II® is a natural type II collagen ingredient that provides a naturally occurring matrix of bioavailable Hyaluronic Acid, depoiymerized Chondroitin Suifate, and Collagen Type II. The new patent protects the composition of BioCell Collagen II®, the natural matrix that matches the joint structure itself, in both oral and topical applications. Synergistically, BioCell Collagen II® may be the missing link to glucosomine and chondroitin formula combinations.

According to Ishaq, the patent highlights many of the ingredient's joint health benefits. Hydrolyzed collagen type II can be used to treat degenerative joint diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, joint defects, vascular disease, progressive myopia, cartilage injuries and connective tissue disorders that usually benefit from increased synthesis of new cartilage.
