• Mitch Daniels announced a new program today, called RxforIndiana, to assist Hoosiers in obtaining information about low-cost prescription medication.
• The goal of the program is to increase the number of low-income people who take advantage of discounts that can sharply reduce the price of medications.
• "Fewer than one in 10 people who are eligible are aware of these savings and receive them,'' Daniels said.
• Nearly 60 local health care, community, business and consumers groups have joined in a partnership to help spread the word of the program and to assist people who want to take advantage of it.
• The program relies on a database of some 300 discount and other reduced price programs complied by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America that can provide price information on more than 1,800 prescriptions.
• Under the program, a consumer would answer a few questions and then be guided through an application process to obtain the medications.
