There's a cost crisis looming on the U.S. health care system, and I'm not talking about obesity: it's Alzheimer's disease. Health experts expect a massive increase in Alzheimer's patients in the next few years, and treating the disease is astonishingly expensive. But there's hope on the horizon: researchers are making breakthroughs in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's. Thankfully, some of the most exciting research about the disease is now showing a strong correlation with dietary habits and physical exercise. Food choice is a major factor when it comes to Alzheimer's, and eating the right foods (broccoli, spinach, and other fresh vegetables) is now proven to be strong prevention. Just imagine how easy it would be to prevent Alzheimer's if people would eat superfoods and nutritional supplements, too! Another important prevention measure is exercise: both physical exercise and brain exercises. People who avoid obesity, who engage in regular fitness training, and who exercise their brains on a daily basis have a greatly reduced risk of Alzheimer's. Of course, that advice is universal when it comes to preventing chronic disease: adopt a healthful diet, avoid processed foods, engage in regular physical exercise and you'll prevent a wide variety of diseases: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, clinical depression and many others. Remember: sound mind, sound body.
