(NaturalNews) No matter what one's personal position is on the issue of consuming dairy products, the freedom to buy and sell raw milk is a fundamental right afforded to every American under the US Constitution. On May 11, 2011, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) introduced House Resolution (HR) 1830, the Unpasteurized Milk Bill, which will eliminate the unlawful federal restrictions on the interstate sale and distribution of raw milk and raw milk products.

For far too long, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has vigorously fought against the sale and even transportation of raw milk products across state lines, even when raw milk sales are legal in the products' state of origin. As many NaturalNews readers already know, the FDA actually spent a great deal of time throughout the past year tyrannizing and raiding raw milk dairy farms, not to mention wasted countless thousands of taxpayer dollars in the process.

"This legislation removes an unconstitutional restraint on farmers who wish to sell or otherwise distribute, and people who wish to consume, unpasteurized milk and milk products," said Rep. Paul to Speaker of the House John Boehner, concerning his proposal. "Americans have the right to consume [raw milk] products without having the federal government second-guess their judgment about what products best promote health. If there are legitimate concerns about the safety of unpasteurized milk, those concerns should be addressed at the state and local level."

HR 1830 specifically states that the federal government has no legal right to "prohibit, interfere with, regulate or otherwise restrict the interstate traffic of milk, or a milk product, that is unpasteurized and packaged for direct human consumption." It adds that any federal agency that violates this provision will be in violation of federal law.

The passage of HR 1830 is a crucial step in defending food freedom because, as referenced in previous articles on the issue, the raw milk issue represents the food freedom movement in general. If the FDA is given free reign to continue outlawing the sale of raw milk in violation of the US Constitution, it will do the exact same thing with herbs, supplements, and any other product that is a threat to its corporate sponsors.

HR 1830 is currently awaiting a hearing in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. You can contact committee members now to express support for the bill by visiting:
